"City Construction #9" an evocative and sculptural painting on panel by G. M. Reiss . Signed on the back and dated 1979. Constructed like a stage set, this fascinating piece is pocked with the beautiful texture of urban decay. Garbage cans vie for space with rickety stairs, chimneys and open windows. "Pat and Als" invites one in for lunch. Literally. Look at the piece...you'll see it. Brick walls, graffiti, parking meters, chicken wire and power lines all conspire to complete this striking tableaux vivant. Surprisingly, this construct resolves in its lower half into an abstract painted abyss with wonderful drips and splatters of the paint used to create the city setting just above.
