Abstract Gouache by Virginia Kay
An abstract gouache on paper by American artist Virginia Gould Kay. C. 1953. The kooky modernist doodlings come together quite effectively in this whimsical cityscape. It is filled with skyscrapers and strange crawling figures and black circuitous streets and avenues offset by similar white meanderings which represent the vertical aspects of the city. The paper was first painted with a terra cotta tone before laying on the rest of the composition. The impression of a city is achieved through the crazy graphic layout and the strange limited presence of bright yellow green elements that telegraph the "electricity in the air" that pulses through all great cities. Newly framed and matted.

EXCELLENT
