A pastel and watercolor on paper composition by American (California) artist Norman Stiles Chamberlain (1887-1961). Chamberlain is known as a WPA muralist and achieved success in Southern California in the early 20th Century under the patronage of Mrs. Henry E. Huntington. This abstracted composition dates to the 1940s and was most likely painted on the California coast, specifically near Laguna Beach where he lived.
